      Overview

      The Old Silk Route in East Sikkim is one of the most scenic and historically rich travel circuits in India. Silk Route packages of Sikkim traces the ancient trade path that connected India to Tibet through the Jelep La Pass in the olden days. A Silk Route tour package will offer you a breath-taking blend of Himalayan beauty, cultural heritage, and peaceful mountain life.

      Itinerary

      Day 1Arrival at Gangtok (Altitude: 5,500 ft)

      Arrive at NJP Railway Station / Bagdogra Airport and get transferred to Gangtok (approx. 4–5 hrs). Feast your eyes on the wild and untamed scenic beauty of the Teesta River. Check-in at the hotel of your choice and relax after your journey. Evening will be free for leisure activities. Savour the first glimpse of the layered townscape of Gangtok and relish the backdrop of Teesta River gracefully winding across the Himalayas.  Listen to the whispering blessings of the prayer flags fluttering against the snow-crested Himalayan peaks. You can explore the vibrancy of the smiling faces, the enthusiastic echoes of the voices of the first-time travellers and the flurry of activities at MG Marg as you eye for cafés, shopping, and local food. Overnight stay at Gangtok.

      Day 2Gangtok – Tsomgo Lake – Baba Mandir – Transfer to Zuluk (located at an altitude: 10,000 ft)

      On Day 2, after breakfast, start your journey towards the Old Silk Route. Visit Tsomgo Lake located at a height of 12,400 ft. This glacial lake is considered sacred and surrounded by snow-clad mountains. Thereafter, proceed towards Baba Harbhajan Singh Mandir, famous for its connection to the Indian Army legend of the same name who is deemed a protector of the valley. Located amidst the misty mountains between Nathula Pass and Tsomgo Lake, Baba Harbhajan Singh Mandir is a living testimony to the blend of legends, patriotism, faith, nature, patriotism and more. Next stop will be Zuluk, a quiet and charming mountain village known for its meandering roads and misty views of the Eastern Himalayas. Zuluk combines the unique aura of mystic calm and Himalayan grandeur. The first glimpse of this mountain village feels like stepping into a forgotten world — where winding clouds embrace ancient ridges, and the silence of the highlands hums with stories of the old Silk Route. On the way, you shall enjoy the beautiful landscapes of Lingtam and Padamchen. Check-in at homestay in Zuluk and overnight stay at Zuluk.

      Day 3Zuluk Sightseeing – Thambi Viewpoint – Gnathang Valley – Kupup Lake

      This day early morning, you shall proceed towards Thambi Viewpoint (11,200 ft) to witness the spectacular sunrise over Kanchenjunga. Explore the famous Zuluk zig-zag road with an amazing 32 hairpin bends, considered a major highlight for tourists of the Silk Route. As you absorb the simplicity of life in Zuluk and watch in wonder the mountain tribes tending to the yaks, the shifting mists unfold a peep at the massive Mount Kanchenjunga, you realise your destination is your journey and as the sunrise paints the mountains golden you hum the glory of the Silk Route enigma. Visit Lungthung, Gnathang Valley (13,500 ft), Kupup Lake (Elephant Lake), and Old Baba Mandir. You shall return to Zuluk by evening. Enjoy a warm homely cosy dinner and local hospitality at the homestay. Overnight stay at Zuluk.

      Day 4Zuluk – Aritar – NJP / Bagdogra Departure

      This is the last day of the Silk Route trip. After breakfast, start the descent towards Aritar. Visit Aritar Lake (Lampokhari) and Aritar Monastery that exudes an ancient Buddhist calmness and peace. The town’s central point of attraction is the shimmering Lampokhari Lake, which is one of the oldest in East Sikkim. The village itself feels timeless — simple, serene, and unhurried — with orchids blooming along paths and prayer flags fluttering gently in the breeze. Continue your journey towards NJP / Bagdogra for your onward journey. Tour ends with fond memories of the Sikkim Silk Route.

      What is the cost of the hotel stay? 

      The estimated cost of hotel accommodation per night is: 

      For standard option  – ₹2000  to ₹2500

      For deluxe option – ₹2500 to ₹5000 

      For luxury option – ₹8000 to ₹12000

      Transfers in Sikkim (Car Options)

      From airport/train station pick up and drop to transfers between attractions (such as Gangtok to Tsomgo Lake to Baba Mandir), all transfers provided in a clean and well-maintained car (SUV/hatchback). The car options are: 

      Standard four-wheeler: Tata Sumo / Bolero / WagonR  or similar

      Luxury four-wheeler: Innova / Xylo / Scorpio or similar 

      Please note that the biggest vehicle we can offer is a 7-seater SUV. We do not provide bus or tempo traveller options.

      Documents for Permits in Sikkim (ILP/PAP)
      1. Tourists with an Indian citizenship must provide Voter ID or Driving License, or Passport as proof of citizenship along with 2 passport size photos to get a permit.
      1. For kids, a birth certificate or passport along with 2 passport size photos are required documents to obtain a permit.
      1. Aadhaar card and PAN card are NOT proof of citizenship and thus will not be considered as valid documents for acquiring a permit. 
      1. Service of a tour guide is mandatory in case of a foreigner travellers who want to visit North Sikkim / Nathula pass & Baba Mandir.
      1. For Foreign travellers must obtain a Restricted Area Permit (RAP) for which a valid passport and an Indian visa along with the application form is required.
      1. Minimum two foreign tourists are required to obtain the required permit for North Sikkim/Nathula pass & Baba Mandir. Sole foreign tourists are not allowed to visit restricted areas in Sikkim.
