Buddhist circuit in Sikkim

Sikkim, a state in the Northeast that is filled with emerald woods, steep mountains, high altitude lakes, and glaciers, can be an action-packed place, but it also has a strong spiritual vibe. It is a location where numerous monasteries have been blessed by Guru Padmasambhava, a renowned Buddhist saint who had an impact on the Sikkimese people’s way of life and culture. Sikkim has more than 200 monasteries, with the first ones established at Dubdi and Sanga Choling nearby Yuksom. Visits to monasteries like Pemayangtse in Pelling, Rumtek and Enchey in Gangtok, and Phensang, Labrang, and Phodong Monasteries on North Sikkim Highway are all recommended as part of a Buddhist Circuit tour in Sikkim. In Sikkim, Buddhism is so ingrained that one can discover monasteries even in the thickest forest patches, the majority of which can only be reached by trekking.

The Buddhist Circuit trip in Sikkim includes the most well-known pilgrimage sites in Gangtok, Pelling, Yuksom, Namchi, Ravangla, Aritar, Mangan, and Lachen. Namchi, one of the top Buddhist pilgrimage destinations in Sikkim, is home to Samdruptse, a beautiful statue of Guru Padmasambhava, also known as Guru Rimpoche, standing at a height of 135 feet. In addition to monasteries, Sikkim has other significant Buddhist places like lakes, caves, and stupas that are adorned with colourful prayer flags to heighten the meditative atmosphere. Among the most revered lakes in Sikkim that have also received the blessing of Guru Rimpoche are Buddhist lakes like Khecheopalrii in western Sikkim and the high-altitude lake, Gurudongmar, surrounded by snow-covered mountains.
