A note on the prices: They are per person on twin-sharing, and they do not include air or rail tickets. If you want a private candle-light dinner, a room upgrade or a flower-and-cake setup on arrival, tell us and we will price it in. Rates for the peak stretch (mid-April to early June, and the Christmas to New Year window) run higher, so book early.

How many days is right for a Sikkim honeymoon?

The honest answer depends on what you want the trip to feel like.

• 3 to 4 nights is enough for Gangtok and a day trip to Tsomgo Lake and Baba Mandir, plus MG Marg evenings. Good if you are short on leave or pairing it with Darjeeling.
• 5 to 6 nights lets you add either North Sikkim (Lachung, Yumthang Valley, Zero Point) or Pelling, with its Kanchenjunga views and the skywalk. This is what most couples pick.
• 7 nights or more is what you need to combine Darjeeling, Gangtok, North Sikkim and Pelling without feeling rushed on the long mountain drives.

One real trade-off: the drive from Gangtok up to Lachen and Lachung is long and bumpy, roughly 6 to 7 hours (to confirm on the day, since road conditions change). If you get carsick, we would rather build in a night to break the journey than sell you a packed itinerary you will not enjoy.

A sample day-wise honeymoon itinerary (Darjeeling and Gangtok, 4N / 5D)

This is our 4 nights / 5 days Darjeeling and Gangtok honeymoon, one of the most-booked for first-timers. It reads Darjeeling 2N then Gangtok 2N.

Day 1: Arrival at Bagdogra or NJP, drive to Darjeeling

Our driver meets you at Bagdogra Airport or New Jalpaiguri (NJP) station and drives you up to Darjeeling (about 95 km, 3 hours). The road climbs through tea gardens and the air turns cool and pine-scented well before you reach town. Settle in, then take an evening walk to the Mall and Chowrasta. Overnight in Darjeeling.

Day 2: Tiger Hill sunrise and Darjeeling sightseeing

An early start (around 4 am) for the Tiger Hill sunrise over Kanchenjunga. On a clear morning the peak turns gold before the sun even touches the town. It is worth the cold and the crowd. Then Ghoom Monastery (subject to timing), followed by the Padmaja Naidu Zoological Park and the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (both closed on Thursdays, so we plan around that), the Tibetan Refugee Self-Help Centre (closed Sundays) and the ropeway. Evening free for the Mall. Overnight in Darjeeling.

Day 3: Darjeeling to Gangtok

Drive to Gangtok (about 105 km, 4 hours). Gangtok is cleaner and more polished than most hill towns, and the evening on MG Marg, a vehicle-free promenade lined with cafes and benches, is made for a slow post-dinner stroll. Our tip: skip the multi-cuisine menus and eat local. A plate of steamed pork or veg momos with a fiery dalle chilli chutney, a bowl of thukpa on a cold night, and if you both fancy something properly Sikkimese, a warm tongba (a millet brew you sip hot through a bamboo straw). Overnight in Gangtok.

Day 4: Tsomgo Lake and Baba Mandir

A half-day trip to Tsomgo Lake (12,400 ft, about 32 km from Gangtok) and Baba Harbhajan Singh Mandir. The lake is glacial and often part-frozen in winter. You can take a short yak ride by the water, though we will be straight with you: it is touristy and the yak handlers charge per photo, so treat it as a bit of fun, not a highlight. This leg needs a Protected Area Permit, which we arrange (see permits below). Evening back in Gangtok. Overnight.

Day 5: Departure

Drive back to Bagdogra or NJP (about 115 km, 4 to 5 hours) for your flight or train home.

The Best Places in Sikkim for Couples

Where we send honeymooners, and what to actually expect at each.

• Gangtok and MG Marg : the base for most trips. The evening promenade, cafes and the Ganesh Tok viewpoint make it an easy, romantic first stop.
• Tsomgo Lake and Nathula Pass : a glacial lake and a high mountain pass on the old Silk Route. Nathula is dramatic but comes with rules (Indians only, closed some days, extra permit). More on that below.
• Yumthang Valley and Zero Point (North Sikkim) : the Valley of Flowers in spring, with rhododendrons in bloom around April and May. Zero Point sits at roughly 15,300 ft (to confirm) and often has snow well into spring. This is the North Sikkim highlight for couples.
• Pelling : the clearest close-up Kanchenjunga views in the state, plus the glass Pelling Skywalk and the old Rabdentse ruins. Quieter and more relaxed than Gangtok.
• Gurudongmar Lake : stunning and sacred, but it sits at roughly 17,800 ft (to confirm) and the drive is punishing. Beautiful for the right couple, too much for many. We will tell you honestly if it suits your plan.
• Ravangla and Namchi : gentler South Sikkim, with the Buddha Park at Ravangla and the Char Dham complex at Namchi. Good for a calmer, slower honeymoon.
• Zuluk and the Silk Route : switchback roads, old army trails and offbeat homestays. For couples who want something different from the standard circuit.

Romantic Things to do for Honeymooners

• Ride the Darjeeling toy train (a UNESCO World Heritage line) on the joy-ride loop from Darjeeling to Ghoom. Book ahead, seats sell out.
• Take the Gangtok ropeway for a cable-car view over the town and the valley.
• Walk a tea garden together, in Darjeeling or the Temi Tea Garden in South Sikkim (Sikkim’s only tea estate), and carry home a box of its aromatic black tea.
• Stand on the Pelling Skywalk for the glass-floor view towards Kanchenjunga.
• Do a slow MG Marg evening in Gangtok with coffee and no vehicles around.
• Ask us about a private candle-light dinner or a room decoration on your first night. These are add-ons, not part of the base price, but they are easy for us to arrange.

Best Time for a Sikkim Honeymoon

There is no single best month, only trade-offs. Here is how we think about it.

• March to June (spring and early summer): daytime roughly 5 to 25°C. Rhododendrons in North Sikkim, clear valleys, the busiest and priciest window. Best for Yumthang and the flower season.
• September to December (autumn and early winter): roughly 6 to 15°C, the clearest Kanchenjunga views of the year, and snow arriving later. Our personal favourite for photos.
• July to September (monsoon): the honest bargain. Fewer crowds, lower hotel and package rates. The catch is real: the mountain roads to Lachen and Lachung can shut after heavy rain and landslides, so North Sikkim is a gamble. Fine if you keep the plan flexible.

If snow is the dream, aim for late December to February, but know that heavy snow can close the high passes at short notice.

Permits and entry fees, explained simply

This is where a local operator earns its fee. Sikkim controls access to areas near the international borders, and the paperwork trips up a lot of first-time visitors. We handle it for you, but here is what is going on so there are no surprises.

• Protected Area Permit (PAP): required for Tsomgo Lake, Baba Mandir, Nathula, Yumthang Valley and Gurudongmar Lake, because they sit close to the border. We arrange these as part of your package.
• Nathula Pass: issued only to Indian nationals, and the pass is generally closed on Mondays and Tuesdays (to confirm at time of booking, as the schedule changes). Foreign nationals are not permitted at Nathula.
• Gurudongmar Lake: permits issued to Indian nationals; foreign nationals are not allowed here either, given the border restrictions.
• Apply a day ahead: as per 2026 guidance, same-day permits are not issued, so permits are arranged at least one day in advance (to confirm). This is exactly why we ask for your ID and photos before you travel.
• Children under 5: officially not permitted at high-altitude points like Nathula, Gurudongmar and Yumthang (to confirm). Relevant if you are travelling with a little one.
• Foreign nationals need to register and carry the right permits and passport copies; the accessible areas differ from those open to Indian travellers. Tell us your nationality up front and we will map out what you can and cannot visit.

Please note: permit rules for Protected Areas and the Inner Line change from time to time, and a few figures above are marked to confirm for that reason. We check the current rules for your exact travel dates before you pay, rather than relying on last season’s information.

Based on our standard Sikkim honeymoon packages. Every package page on Sikkimtourism.org lists this in full, but here is the shape of it.

Included

• Accommodation in the listed hotels or homestays, with the meal plan shown for that package.
• A private vehicle for all transfers and sightseeing, as per the itinerary.
• All parking fees, road tax and toll charges.
• Airport or station pickup and drop assistance.
• Applicable taxes as listed on the specific package.

Not included

• Flights and train tickets. Our honeymoon packages are land-only. If you need help booking your flight or train to Bagdogra or NJP, our team is happy to assist and can suggest the smartest routing from your city.
• 5% GST and any guide charges.
• Monument and attraction entry fees.
• Porter charges where applicable.
• Personal expenses: laundry, phone calls, beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), tips and any meals not in the plan.
• Anything not specifically listed under inclusions, and costs from delays due to weather, roadblocks or reasons beyond our control.

Booking, payment and cancellation

Changes, cancellations, or shortening of confirmed bookings require at least 30 days’ written notice to the company and are subject to availability. Requests made within 30 days of the travel date cannot be accommodated, and the full package amount will be retained.

No refunds are given for no-shows, unused nights, or early departure. Guests with international bank accounts are responsible for any bank charges on refunds sent under this policy. Refunds are processed through the original payment method, except for cash payments, which are refunded by cheque or online transfer. The refund process begins within five working days of receiving the cancellation request.

Cancellations may also arise if transport to Gangtok or another destination is called off due to bad weather or other unavoidable circumstances.

Note: Any refund granted outside the standard cancellation policy will attract a premium of 10% plus 18% taxes.
