Bhutan is a quietly romantic place, and it does not have to try hard to be one. No crowds elbowing into your photos, no horns, valleys that empty out by evening into total stillness. Our Bhutan honeymoon package keeps the same beautiful backbone as the classic circuit, Thimphu, Punakha and Paro, but slows it down and softens it for two. Fewer rushed museum stops, more time by the river, better hotels where we can, and the small romantic touches that actually matter: a candlelight dinner, a farmhouse hot stone bath after the Tiger’s Nest hike, a slow morning with mountain coffee at Dochula.
Punakha is the heart of it. The valley is warm, low and green, the river runs a startling glacial blue, and it is where we build in a riverside stay and a private dinner. We have sent a lot of newlyweds here, and the feedback is always the same: it did not feel like a tour, it felt like a place they had to themselves. This is Bhutan for couples who want beauty and calm over a packed checklist, with all the permit and SDF work quietly handled.
This is for newlyweds and couples who want beauty, privacy and calm over a packed sightseeing list. It suits pairs happy to trade a couple of long drives for warm river valleys, romantic touches and slower days. It works beautifully for couples entering by road from Bagdogra or NJP, and pairs naturally with a few extra days in Sikkim or Darjeeling. Reasonably fit couples will enjoy the Tiger’s Nest hike together, with horses available for part of the climb. It is less suited to those wanting nightlife and buzz, which Bhutan simply does not do, or couples who would rather fly straight into Paro to skip the drives, which we can also arrange separately.
Our driver meets you at Bagdogra airport or NJP station. The drive to the border town of Phuentsholing runs through tea gardens and the Dooars, an easy first day. Check in, rest, and take an evening stroll to the Bhutan Gate. This border night keeps the next day calm, since your entry permit is processed here in the morning. Overnight in Phuentsholing.
After permit formalities (carry passport or Voter ID and photos), we climb almost 2,000 metres into the mountains. The air cools, the views open up, and Bhutan begins in earnest. Reach Thimphu by late afternoon. A relaxed first evening: a walk down Norzin Lam, maybe a quiet café. Overnight in Thimphu.
A gentle morning in the capital: the Great Buddha Dordenma over the valley, the Memorial Chorten, and the Takin Preserve. We keep it light. After an early lunch, we drive up to Dochula Pass at 3,100 metres, stop for coffee among the 108 chortens, and descend into the warm Punakha valley as the afternoon softens. Overnight in Punakha, ideally beside the river.
This is your day. Visit Punakha Dzong, the loveliest fortress in the country, where the two rivers meet. Cross the long suspension bridge together. Take the gentle walk to Chimi Lhakhang through the fields. And in the evening, your private candlelight dinner. If you would rather do less, do less. The river, a book and a slow afternoon is a perfectly good plan here. Overnight in Punakha.
Back over Dochula and on to Paro, the broadest and greenest of Bhutan's valleys. Afternoon at your own pace: Rinpung Dzong, a wander through Paro town, or simply rest before tomorrow's hike. We keep the evening free and early, because Tiger's Nest is worth arriving fresh for. Overnight in Paro.
You hike to Taktsang together, the Tiger's Nest, 900 metres above the valley on its cliff. Four to six hours return at an easy pace, with a tea stop and a first view at the halfway cafeteria. Take it slow. In the afternoon, a traditional hot stone bath at a farmhouse, herbs in the water, the ache of the climb dissolving. A fitting last full evening in Bhutan. Overnight in Paro.
An early, honest start for the long drive back to the border and on to Bagdogra. This is the trip's longest travel day, and if your onward flight allows, we usually suggest a final night in Phuentsholing to break it up. Tour ends on arrival at Bagdogra / NJP, with, we hope, a phone full of photos and a valley or two you will keep going back to in your head.
To confirm your booking with sikkimtourism.org, an advance payment is required. This upfront amount holds your reservation on a confirmed basis. The balance is payable before services begin, either at departure or on arrival at the destination, and the full amount must be cleared before your trip starts.
The advance amount is set at the management's discretion and varies with the type of services booked and how much time there is between booking and travel. During peak periods, when demand is high and rates for linked services rise quickly, full payment may be required to secure the booking. The Christmas and New Year season is a typical example, when services must be reserved in full rather than held on part payment.
Payment method: payments are made to our bank by wire transfer.
Confirmed dates may be changed, cancelled or shortened only with 30 days' written notice to the company, subject to availability. If cancellation is made within 30 days of travel, we cannot change, postpone or cancel the reservation, and the package amount is retained in full.
No-shows are not eligible for any refund. There is no credit for unused nights or early departure. Where a vehicle to any destination is cancelled due to bad weather or other unavoidable circumstances, the same policy applies.
Refunds are made using the original payment method, except for cash payments, which are refunded by cheque or online transfer. If you hold an international bank account, any associated bank fees are your responsibility. We begin the refund process within five business days of receiving your written cancellation request. A premium of 10% plus 18% taxes applies to any refund processed outside the standard cancellation policy.
Important: no refund for bookings made from 01 March 2026 to 15 July 2027, and no refund for bookings made from 15 December 2026 to 15 January 2027.
For couples who want calm and beauty over nightlife, yes, it is one of the best in the region. It is quiet, safe, clean and uncrowded, and the Punakha valley in particular is made for a slow few days together.
Indians need only a Bhutan entry permit, not a visa. Carry your passports (6 months validity) or Voter IDs and photos. We arrange the permit and the route permit for Punakha and Paro.
This 6N/7D honeymoon package starts around INR 44,000 per person on double-occupancy, plus SDF of INR 1,200 per adult per night (INR 7,200 each for the trip). Final cost depends on season and resort choice.
Spring (March to May) for rhododendrons and clear passes, or autumn (October to early December) for crisp blue skies. Both are lovely. Autumn is peak season, so book early for riverside stays in Punakha.
Yes. The base package uses good 3-star and boutique stays, but we can upgrade you to premium riverside resorts in Punakha and Paro on request. Tell us your budget and we will quote options.
Why Plan Your Bhutan Trip with sikkimtourism.org
We are based in the region, not running Bhutan from a call centre three states away. Our team knows the Phuentsholing permit office, which drivers handle the Dochula road well in bad weather, which Punakha stays actually sit on the river, and when the SDF and route-permit rules quietly change. Because we run Sikkim, Darjeeling and Bhutan together, we can stitch a Bhutan tour onto a Sikkim holiday without you paying two operators. You get local answers, honest advice on what to skip, and someone reachable on the ground while you travel.
