Pelling is around 10 kilometres from Gyalshing or the District Headquarter. Pelling has gained a lot of importance both from tourism point of view and economic status. It has emerged today as the second most significant tourist destination in the state after Gangtok. The unique Pemayangste Monastery is located less than a kilometre away from Pelling. It can be reached by a mere 40-minute walk on the hill opposite the monastery which takes you to Sanga Choling Monastery built in 1697. Khangchendzonga Festival is one of the most noted festivals to be held at Pelling annually. As the name suggests, this festival has been named after the guardian deity of Sikkim.
