2. Rumtek Monastery – Sikkim’s largest monastery and one of the most notable monasteries, belonging to the Kagyu sect of Tibetan Buddhism. The architecture of Rumtek monastery draws heavy inspiration from Tsurphu Monastery in Tibet. Located on a hilltop, the monastery is home to paintings, murals and religious relics.
