On the road to Gurudongmar Lake, there is a little settlement called Thangu valley close to Lachen. It is a little village with rows of stone and wooden homes that serve as restaurants for passing tourists. It lies in the Alpine mountain range and is situated at a high elevation of 3962m, where a distinct way of life may be observed. serene, relaxed, and removed from the metropolis. The people still cook and perform errands using ancient, customary techniques in their cosy, compact homes. A kitchen garden and shed are commonplace in homes. Due to the proximity to the army base, there is heavy monitoring in this region, and taking photos is forbidden in several public spaces.

Army personnel are visible moving about. Thangu is the perfect location for a pit break to take in the mountains’ magnificence up close.

The Teesta, Chopta, Thangu, and Lassur rivers can be found in Thangu. They flow through meadows and are stunning to see because of their sparkling water. The trees disappear as you ascend in height, revealing the sparsely forested Tibetan plateau in the distance.
