West Sikkim, India has the town of Rinchenpong. It is located in West Sikkim, adjacent to the village of Kaluk, some 40 kilometres west of Gangtok, 10 km south of Gyalshing. It is situated within dense woodland at a height of 5576 feet (1,700m) above sea level. It is well-known for its hiking trails and the Rigsum Monastery. The location of a historic conflict between the armies of the then-Chogyal (King) of Sikkim and the occupying British forces lies close to the town. The sole available water supply, a lake, was poisoned by the Lepcha tribesmen using a mixture of unknown plants (local term : pokhri). The lake, which is still poisonous today, is locally known as bikh-pokhri (poisoned lake). Languages spoken: English, Hindi, and Nepali.
