Detailed Sikkim Gangtok Lachung Tour Itinerary (4 nights/5 days)

(2 nights Gangtok – 1 night Lachung – 1 night Gangtok)

Day 1: Arrival in Gangtok’s Bagdogra Airport/ NJP Station & Leisure Day

Bagdogra/NJP to Gangtok: Get ready for an exciting 5 day Sikkim (Gangtok Lachung Tour) with SikkimTourism.org. Arrive at Bagdogra airport/NJP station where our tour representative will meet you and escort you to Gangtok. 

Bagdogra airport (IXB) to Gangtok distance: 125 km | Transfer time: 4.5 – 5  hours. NJP station to Gangtok 115 km | Transfer time: 4 hours. 

Transfer to Hotel: Witness the change in scenery from Bagdogra to Gangtok. Feel the crisp and fresh mountain air as we get closer to Sikkim’s beautiful capital, Gangtok. Check in at the hotel and unwind yourself from the long tour in your room. 

Leisure Time: Visit MG Marg, a pedestrian-friendly street with vibrant  shops, cafes, and restaurants. It’s the go-to place for every tourist visiting Gangtok for shopping and dining. You can shop, enjoy a plate of steaming momo, and take in the vibe of MG Marg. 

Overnight stay in Gangtok: Get back to your hotel and proceed to your comfortable and cosy room to retire for the night.

Day 2: Tsomgo Lake & Baba Mandir with (Optional Nathula Pass visit)

Hotel Pick up: Start your day with a warm and comforting meal at the hotel and get ready for an exciting trip to Tsomgo Lake and Baba Mandir. Our tour representative will pick you up from your hotel and drive towards the first point of interest. 

Tsomgo Lake: Watch the breathtaking beauty of Tsomgo Lake nestled at 3,780 meters. The lake freezes in winter, but in spring and summer it reflects the beautiful colour turquoise blue and sometimes deep green. You will see beautiful birds and yaks grazing around the lake. 

Baba Mandir: Next, we will stop by a sacred shrine, called Baba Madir which was built in the honour of Indian Army soldier Harbhajan Singh. Feel the tranquillity of the temple and learn about the legend and folklore surrounding this sacred site. 

Optional Tour Nathula Pass: A tour to Nathula Pass can be added to your itinerary with extra charges. Nathula pass is one of the highest mountain roads near the India-China border. One requires a permit  (along with proper documentation) to visit this sensitive area. 

Please note:

• Nathula Pass is closed on Monday and Tuesday. 
• Unpredictable weather conditions may also affect the visit to Nathula pass. 
• Please note that permit is available on a first come first serve basis and its processing requires at least 72 hours with proper documentation.

Overnight Stay in Gangtok: After sightseeing for the day, we return to the hotel enjoying the scenic views along the way. Our representative will drop you at the hotel where you will enjoy a restful sleep.

Day 3:  Gangtok – Lachung Excursion (117 km in 6.5-7 hours)

Morning: Start your day early with breakfast followed by a hotel pick up. Today, we head to Lachung, a mountainous village in North Sikkim located close to Tibet. Lachung is perched at a height of 2,700 m and has picturesque valleys, soothing waterfalls, and is the gateway to Yumthang Valley. On our way, we will stop by the following attractions: 

Singhik Viewpoint: At a height of 4000 meters, Singhik viewpoint offers the sweeping views of Mount Kanchenjunga and Mount Siniolchu. From there, you can also witness the confluence of the Teesta and Kanaka rivers

Seven Sister waterfall: Next on the Gangtok-Lachung Highway, we will stop and admire the beautiful Seven Sister waterfall. It is a multi-tier waterfall which cascades down a lush green hill side by side. Such a beautiful view amidst your road excursion will revitalise your senses.   

Naga waterfalls: Get to witness another beautiful waterfall on the way to North Sikkim. The milky-white Naga waterfall cascades down with a thundering sound. It’s a great spot to do nature’s photography. 

Bheem Nala waterfalls: Surrounded by lush green trees and steep rocks, Bheem Nala waterfalls is one of the tallest waterfalls in Sikkim. It cascades from a height of 70 m and the sound of flowing falls can be heard from a distance. 

In between sightseeing, we will stop by a restaurant/cafe where you can have lunch and by evening, we will reach Lachung. 

Overnight stay in Lachung: Check in at the hotel in Lachung, have dinner and take a restful sleep after a long day of travelling and sightseeing. 

Note: Pickup and drop from Sumo/Maxx/Bolero is available from 8 am to 8 pm.

Day 4: Lachung to Yumthang Valley & Return to Gangtok

Morning: You will receive an early pick up at the hotel by our tour representative. Today, you will enjoy a scenic trip to Yumthang Valley aka the valley of flowers. 

Yumthang Valley: From mid-February to mid-May, Yumthang valley blooms with hundreds of flowers like rhododendrons, primulas, poppies, iris, etc. Feel the peace and tranquillity of this place and take photos. On our way back to the hotel, stop by a hot water spring, which is known to have medicinal properties. 

Depart from Lachung:  After Yumthang valley, return to the hotel to enjoy a delicious  lunch and check out from the hotel. You will be transferred to Gangtok in a comfortable Sumo/Maxx/Bolero or a similar car. 

Overnight Stay in Gangtok: It will be late evening by the time you will return to the hotel. So, unwind at the hotel and retire for the night. 

Day 5: Departure from Gangtok 

Morning: After a warm breakfast at the hotel, pack your bags and proceed to check out from the hotel. Our tour representative will drop you off at Bagdogra airport/NJP train station. Return home with all happy memories of Gangtok Lachung trip.

Documents for Permits in Sikkim  (ILP/PAP) 

1. Tourists with an Indian citizenship must provide Voter ID or Driving License, or Passport as proof of citizenship along with 2 passport size photos to get a permit. 

2. For kids, a birth certificate or passport along with 2 passport size photos are required documents to obtain a permit. 

3. Aadhaar card and PAN card are NOT proof of citizenship and thus will not be considered as valid documents for acquiring a permit. 

4. Service of a tour guide is mandatory in case of a foreigner travellers who want to visit North Sikkim / Nathula pass & Baba Mandir.

5. For Foreign travellers must obtain a Restricted Area Permit (RAP) for which a valid passport and an Indian visa along with the application form is required. 

6. Minimum two foreign tourists are required to obtain the required permit for North Sikkim/Nathula pass & Baba Mandir. Single foreign tourists are not allowed to visit restricted areas in Sikkim.
